Highs and lows for 2006

As 2006 draws to a close, what were the high points and the low points for renewable energy this year? Leafing back through this year’s issues of Renewable Energy Report and through some of our previous posts on this blog, it’s good to see so many positive developments for the sector, but there were also some clear setbacks.
Was President George W. Bush’s State of the Union address back in January a turning point for US renewables? He said the US was addicted to oil and he wanted renewables, especially biofuels, to make a significant contribution to US energy, cutting dependence on imported oil. But was it just empty rhetoric?
What about the news that emerged in Australia in September that the governments at state level were to press ahead with their own renewables and climate change programs, far more ambitious than those agreed at federal level. Since the federal government [...]
